Mr.
Schmidt is the President and Owner of WestPark Direct. He brings
over 14 years of experience in the newspaper industry to his work
with his clients, which include some of the largest weekly and daily
newspapers in the United States. Prior to starting WestPark Direct,
Mr. Schmidt worked at Sun
Newspapers in Cleveland, Ohio, one of the
largest weekly newspaper chains in the U.S. His tenure at
Sun provided him
with diverse hands-on experiences in every part of newspaper
operations, including editorial, production, advertising sales,
accounting, finance, and circulation. As a result, he understands
his clients' needs. He has experienced the same challenges that you
now face.
Mr. Schmidt's career began as circulation sales
manager, where he spent several years developing and implementing
plans to convert free newspapers to fully paid. The techniques
involved door-to-door sales, direct mail, and telemarketing. Before
leaving Sun Newspapers, Mr. Schmidt served as Director of Circulation for four
years. In this role, he oversaw a carrier force of 3,800 youths,
managed over 200,000 subscriptions, managed all contracts with
telemarketing firms, and planned, implemented, and managed a 30-seat
in-house phone room. It was in this role as Circulation Director
that Mr. Schmidt was inspired with the idea of starting WestPark
Direct. While working with telemarketing firms to try to meet his
circulation needs at Sun, he discovered that many firms inflate sales and
circulation numbers by acquiring easy sales and avoiding the quality
sales, the ones that are more difficult to close. By conducting his
own research and paying close attention to research in the industry,
he learned that the difficult sales are the ones more likely to
become long-term paying subscribers. With this knowledge, Mr.
Schmidt commits himself and his company to delivering quality
circulation sales--in all of your targeted markets.
